To clarify, I mean being at a party/picnic etc. and being like "hey... can I make a plate..." and starting to pack up food to take home for so and so, and so and so, etc.

Even kids do it -- my best friend, who's white and married to a black guy was babysitting 2 of his nieces - and we went to my work friend's house for a little get-together on a Saturday afternoon. My friend told me that the little girls whispered to her like, "...Auntie Amy -- can we make a plate...." -- and of course she was like, "it's not that kind of party..."

Well, when you're usually in a comfotable place and mainly around family and friends, people don't mind taking plates home, and 9 times out of 10 you're offered to take a plate home! But to say why do BLACK people.........thats a stupid thing to say. I went to a private school where it was only 250 blacks out of 2500 students, and the WHITE people acted more GHETTO than we did! Stealing food out of the dining hall (stuffing it into their backpacks), falling out drunk in public, fighting in parkinglots/dorms, etc. So chill with the stupid sterotypes.

Why are you worried about other peoples plate?

Did their plate stop you from living, did you have to give up something out of your room? Did you lose something off of your back? Did a friend stop being your friend?

Why do you feel that you have to qualify your supposed issue from a racial point?

Last It AIN"T NONE OF YOUR BEES WAX?

So go pick your nose or something, but leave other folks alone!

That always happens with white people too so I don't think it's a race thing. I think its more common courtesy

I don't think, it's a race thing. People do that out of courtesy. Another way of making you feel welcome and taste their food.

That's all, no special reason.

Good luck........
