I don't agree. Sometimes a best answer is only chosen because it is popular or agrees with the opinion of the person asking the question. That would mean that if everyone thought gravity did not bend light (which Einstein predicted would be the case, and which was proven during an eclipse), then the person with that correct answer would not be given or earn a best answer.
Sometimes truth is not popular, and no point system willl ever be perfect. Anyway, this is just a hobby, no?

You really should stick to asking questions rather than giving your opinions. If you insist on stating your opinion on a site designed for asking questions, you really should back your statement up with something. Don't just say they should only give points for best answers and not explain your reasoning behind this statement. That's my opinion, and the reason I say so is because if you do, more people are likely to see where you're coming from and a few might even agree with you. I agree to some degree because there are so many different answers given by people that are of no value at all.

NO!! Because then some of us wouldn't get any points. What if you're someone who's not very good at answering questions?? They won't get any points so there'd be no motive to want to try answer people's questions. PLUS one answer isn't always the best answer. Sometimes the best answer you can get is a mixture of more than just one. THEREFORE it would be very fair really....

Others took the trouble to read and answer our questions so they deserve points for that. Best answer gets highest point anyhow by a big margin. I know the others are sarcastic and rude but there are others who try to give good answers. Their effort deserves some points

Yes . . . but it is not always possible to get best answers. This way all things are fair and people are encouraged to answer questions and rate other people's answers and therefor discover more knowledge.
