I am a woman with 19 tattoos, none hurt, but the feeling at the beginning is a bit uncomfortable. Some areas of the body are more sensitive then others (like feet and back of neck) . Go to a parlor that uses a new needle for each person. Ask for references from people who have tattoos. Think about your design,, remember it will be with you the rest of your life.

I have an anchor tattoo on the back of my neck. If you go in the parlor with the idea that it's going to hurt, it's going to hurt. It's basically a combination of your state of mind and your threshold of pain. I have a LOW threshold for pain, but I had a good support system there with me, a good reason for getting the tattoo and I had a very understanding artist, who talked me through the whole process.
I don't regret my tattoo at all, because it was well thought out and meaningful.
I personally never liked tattoos, especiallty names of your significant other, but if they're truly meaningful, then I believe in them.
I think the back of you neck is a great spot. I chose to get mine on the back of my neck because it can be displayed and hidden at my own discretion. When I'm at work, I can put my hair down (because it is long), and I won't hear anything about being unprofessional. When I'm home, I can put my hair up, or in a low slung side pony, and display my tattoo.
Just do it for the right reasons, and you should be happy! And, don't be afraid of the pain. It's over before you know it!

I have a few, the first 5 - 6 didn't hurt but # 7 or 8 did! No I don't regret it I want more! A tattoo shop is a good place to get 1, rather than somebody's basement, or in jail! Pics on my site!

I have a fairly large 1 on my upper back close to my neck. It hurt but bearable as someone has already said. I don't regret having it done. I think that they look good depending on the tattoo. A good place to get one is where you could easily cover it with clothes if you wish to cover it for jobs.

Getting a tattoo is pretty painful. However it is also very addictive. You should seriously consider what your getting because it is likely that you will have it for the rest of your life. Never get a name!!!! But I love my tattoos! I have 3 and I want three more. Location is very important. The back is good, the ankle, the neck even... Good luck!

i've had one on upper arm and one on ankle. they kinda hurt, fells like a bee sting. sometimes i regret them when i feel other people judging me. but mostly i like them. i think the best place for one is right above the ankle line. i don't think there's anything wrong with them as long as they are decent and only a few. it will hurt while its being done, but not bad, i think its worth it. be careful and make sure you "only" use a licensed tattoo artist. if it gets to hurting to bad you can ask them to stop a minute. but be really sure what you want and where you get it, remember its a lifetime committment.

it depends on where you get the tattoo.... my lower back didn't hurt so bad nor did my spine but my shoulders hurt like a mug.
don't regret them b/c i thought it out before i got them think "what will they look like in 30 yrs?"
as for the place that's all on you.. you have to remember will it interfere with your job or change the way people see you?

I have 2, one on my shoulder, one on my lower back. The one on my lower back hurt pretty bad but it wasn't horrible. I have regrets about my tattoos, but it's not because I have them, I regret the one on my shoulder becuase it is in the way of some other work I want done, and I regret the one on my lower back because its too small.

No regrets but the pain level depends on where you get it but yes it hurts and any one who says it didn't is LYING! DO get your tatoo somewhere you can hide it if u want to . I know alot of my female freinds who got theirs on the ankle and now regret it because everyone sees it when they wear skirts or capris to church work etc.
