I have a daughter who will be 14 in September. She has been going through a Gothic stage since 6th grade (now in 8th). She refuses to take a bath or shower. She will finally get one about once a month...if I'm lucky. I've told her about the importance of personal hygeine, especially since she's already going through puberty. I don't know how she can stand it, but she says when she "feels dirty" she'll get a shower. She's a good size girl and I can't just pick her up and put her in the shower. Any suggestions?

I had discussed this with a psychologist regarding my sons hygiene. They said that the child will get enough peer pressure to change. I would make it clear that she is expected to keep public family areas clean (such as the bathroom). I would also be vocal when she stinks, such as 'damn you are smelling awful, don't your friends complain about it, maybe you should shower or something?"

Persuasion works better than force, especially on a teen.

Good luck

put your foot down and dont let her do anything until she cleans herself up.

tell her she's staying in her room and she can forget about hanging with her friends until she starts taking a shower everyday

goth or not...there is no reason for her to be nasty and theres no reason for you to let be be nasty.
your the parent dont let her get away with being gross.

maybe you should be agressive, say, dont come down for dinner until you've showered, or say like, you can go out with your friends tonight----only if you shower!
be kinda rewarding, or aggressive to get it
