well.. this is kind of weird that it's a trivia question, but the answer is IX (9). you can set the second player to control half the character slots in battle only. (so they control 1 or 2 people, depending on how many people are in the party at the time)

Final Fantasy VI allows for 2 player, at least it did when it was on SNES.

very final fantasy 7 and eight, 7 helps each participant to apply Summon, Magic, Heal, with the splendid materia. and seven does have the ideal gameplay and tale mode. very final fantasy X does no longer enable Magic for each character... WTF are adult adult males conversing approximately.... Tidus can use a number of his skills with Sword and his Blitzball skills. Auron can use a number of ruin assaults yet those are not seen magic those are specific skills. Rikku can scouse borrow.... Yuna can summon and white magic Lulu Black Magic all of them won't be in a position to apply magic WTF are you conversing approximately adult adult males.

i think that there are no FF games with multiplayer compability except XI and crystal chronicles
