First of all, you are wise to have a goal and a time frame. The answer really depends on your lifestyle because what one person has, wants or needs is different from another. You will need your security deposit and first month's rent upfront. A security deposit is usually equal to a whole month and more if you have a pet. You will want to consider deposits for utilities like gas heat and/or electric, phone, cable, and internet service. Some may have deposit requirements. Others may not. The next thing to consider is furniture and furnishings. Some people may feel that a folding card table and chairs are suitable as a dining room while others want an elaborate cherry wood dining set with lighted buffet. Some people would shop at yard sales while others would head straight to a furniture store. Only YOU know your budget and tastes. Keep your eyes open for sales on dishes, flatware, pots & pans, etc. Make a list of items that you see where you live now. What do you need in your own place? Once in a new place, you will need curtains, linens, cleaning supplies, and all kinds of items which only cost $2 here and $4 there but add up quickly. You can never have too much money but make sure you have enough. And, please consider adding rental insurance to your budget. I know people that had damages/theft without coverage and they are all sad stories. In short, I would think that $3,000+ would be a minimum if you have to furnish your new residence.

Every user gets a Million Dollar Page where advertisers pay to find the right customers. This is a no-spam site where people have to pay $1 to send an email. This is a totally legit site with no joining fees, no credit cards. Also you can list classifieds for free.

Depends on what you are looking for. A house or an apartment. With a house you want to make sure you have enough to cover all expenses. With an apartment you want to have enough for first, last, and down deposit. Also try to have enough for possibly 3 to 4 months of rent.

the average decent apartment these days goes for about $1400/month, then there's phone bills ($80/month), cable and internet ($60/ month) water, electric, gas for your car, insurance, doctor's bills, and of course taxes. then you have to buy things like furniture and food, and if you're still going to school there's cost for books and college itself. about $3000-$5000 if you want to live properly.
