If you are going to grow carrots in a pot, you will need a very deep pot. The part we eat is a root, but there are smaller "feeder" roots growing off the big orange part, so your pot should be several inches deeper than the length of the carrot. (For example, if you are growing a variety that will be 6 inches long, use a pot that is at least 9 or ten inches deep.)
Carrots are a cool weather crop, so they are usually planted in early spring or late summer. Carrot seeds should be planted no more than 1/2" deep and the soil should be kept moist (but not soggy) until they germinate, which will be about 7 to 14 days. They can be a bit slow and irregular in sprouting, so be patient. If you are growing them in a pot, I would suggest using a good general purpose potting soil. Garden soil gets too hard and dense in a pot, unless you mix in a lot of sand. Put the pot where it receives full sun. When the leaves of the baby carrots get to be an inch or so high, thin them out so that the remaining carrots are about 3 inches apart. Then just keep them watered whenever the top couple of inches of soil dries out, and in a couple of months, you should have edible sized carrots.

They need well drained, loose soil. Sand is a great thing to mix in with your soil. Hard (clay) compacted soil will not work for carrots...they'll be stunted.

You'll need a deep pot as they're roots and need the room to grow.

They need average amount of water...not soaking but moist will do. Allow soil to dry out a bit between waterings.

They're pretty easy to grow. Have fun! :-)

I wouldn't try carrots in a pot, the depth required is too deep. But plant them in soil made up of peat moss and sand
