Sixteen candles is a fantastic movie. But I would also reccomend that you just watch Serendipity over again, because it was that good.

Better off Dead and One Crazy Summer for his early silly stuff.
We just watched Ice Harvest....not sure if i would recommend it but your taste might be different than mine...
High Fidelity and City Hall were good also....
