Many dance styles can be performed as a soloist but I think it works best with Modern dance, Lyrical, Bellydance and certain Indian dances. Personally as a bellydancer I'd reccomend bellydancing. It's great exercise and also great fun. While taking lessons you often bond with your classmates on a level I've never had before in other styles of dance. There's a lot more comraderie among bellydancers and less competitiveness (I said LESS). It can give you great self esteem and make you feel great. However it's highly addictive and costs a lot of money if you really get into it. Typical costumes run from $300 - $3000 dollars depending on a number of factors. Modern and lyrical dance can be a lot cheaper since they are often performed in typical dance clothes (ie leotards, leggings, dance tops, dance bottoms, etc...). Don't know about Indian dance costumes but they are probably somewhere in between since I bought a really cool one for $75 dollars a few years back in Chicago. Find a dance that appeals to you and learn it well. You will make it sensual on your own if thats what you want.

Well I am into jazz. I think it helps build flexability and courage to do new things. Ballet is very gracefull. You can't be uncordinated if you choose to take it! Basically it's your choice what knid of dancing you want to do. Do what you want. Don't let anyone make this decission for you. Make sure it is something you are going to want to pursue and be pastionate about. It's no fun dancing if your not having fun!!!!
