I'm buying a new car for me and my fionce, but I dont know much about cars in general. We are looking to get a good reliable family vehicle for a low price, and have decided to go with a new car.
I see a bunch of things like LS, LE, LT, and Sedan, Coupe, and a bunch of other things that I have no idea what they mean. The one we were looking at specifically was an automatic Chevy Aveo, but the models and stuff are what confused me.
Could someone give me a hand please? It would be greatly appriciated.

The letters and special numbers are what confused me the most, the model I already have picked and set, its just I didn't know what the difference was between the letters and special names and things. Thanks everyone who gave me hand in giving me information on what the letters and stuff mean.

Well, the LS, LE, etc, are basically trim models...Such as the car would have different options than the others of the same look and such. A sedan, is a car with 4 doors, and a coupe is a car with 2 doors. Hope these help some.

The main cost of a car is depreciation. Some cars can be worth 50% of their new cost after 3 years, others as little as 28%. Look at this in the car magazines. Make sure you buy a car in a popular colour, usually red or silver or perhaps white. Certainly not a special colour like aubergine or orange. Never brown or beige.

It is probably not a good idea to pick the lowest model in the range, nor the highest. Subsequent buyers will consider economy and service costs more than you.

Keep up-to-date with servicing and get the service book stamped. When you change tires, get the same brand on all four, ie if you only change two, get the same brand as the others.

The "LE, LS, LT etc" refer to the trim levels of a particular model. Each manufacturer uses its own method so you can't compare one manufacturer with another when it comes to trim level. For instance, car company A's LE trim level might be a bare bones, entry level trim while car company B's LE trim level might be the top of the line with all the bells and whistles.

A sedan is a four door car with a trunk. A coupe is a two door car with a trunk. A hatchback is a small two or four door car with a back storage area like a station wagon.

I would suggest you go do research at www.edmunds.com and/or the Chevrolet website. You should know the car you want inside and out before you go and buy one, especially what's a fair price.

Lots of company's make a living out of testing and recommending cars depending on your individual style. Check out consumer reports if not on line then the local library for back issues. Also jdpowers may have a web site as they make recommendations as well. No one can do it for you. You have to make your own decision after doing some work a.k.a. research. the information is there, go for it.

don't go with a brand new one. buy one that is slightly used. that way you will not get screwed with depreciation. if you buy a new, it will lose thousands of value the second you drive it off the lot.
