From Old French ménagement "the art of conducting, directing", from Latin manu agere "to lead by the hand.

Characterises the process of leading and directing all or part of an organization, often a business, through the deployment and manipulation of resources (human, financial, material, intellectual or intangible).

Origin Of The Word Management

2016-12-17 16:11:18 · answer #2 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

Manager arose around the time of the Industrial revolution...as the emerging middle classes were being given certain privileges to 'look over' the workers in the factories, for the owners...so they have always been and always will be middle class twats trying to get to the top, but inherently flawed by their acceptance of such a ridiculous role....i'lll never be a manager!

Chris,

Love your question as
I've thought about it lots.

The descriptions of manager given
by some (the quoted ones) are correct,
however,
manager today
is a man or woman who is placed
above you to use, abuse, reuse, recycle you
until you age enough so they put you oput to pasture,
where there is no grass left anymore.....
And, they don't even give you the gold watch anymore
Really!
Have a good day! :D

it comes from putting the words "man" and "ager" together as this is what your "manager" does, he or she makes you feel old by buying up your life in hourly sections when you should be down the pub drinking double Jack Dee's and coke.

Oh sure! It doesn't come from "he who manages", Right? Actually it's all a sexist ploy...it should be person-ager. Equal rights to grow old having to baby-sit your staff.
