If his name is not something common like John Smith, then use the Internet to try googling him. Follow up on any details they provide. You could also try Internet white pages site which often has free phone numbers but always has paid-searches (if it can't find him you don't have to pay).

Try his name on google, alta vista search, ask.com etc. If you have some idea of his location, superpages.com, verizon.com and anywho.com have white pages where you can search for him by name.
