I would like to know why Yahoo returns, most of the time, less results than Google when I use the same keywords.

For example, if I search for "Google" and "Yahoo" in both sites, the results are the following as of today (26-aug-2006):

== YAHOO.com ==
yahoo - 980,000,000 pages
google - 526,000,000 pages

== GOOGLE.com ==
yahoo - 1,450,000,000 pages
google - 2,700,000,000 pages

The same occurs with other words such as "house", "pesticide", or "windows". Sometimes, Google's results are over two times larger than Yahoo's ones.

Any ideas?

Thank you in advance,
Ricardo

yahoo will probably include a lot more sites that are made/owened by yahoo (such as groups) when it is searched. google will overlook these.

googling google will pick up a lot of sites that use google as a built in search engine.

with the random words, each engine has a different database of sites which it will find.

there is only a problem when you cant find what you're looking for after 100,000 odd sites

HM, not sure, but I am guessing Go ogle gives you pages that are not helpful or related to your topic while Yahoo doesn't include them. I've had better luck with Yahoo, especially with pictures.
