The movement? Yes. Since long time ago. I think it was the end when Sex Pistols made it to the charts... the punk movement was a social protest, they didn't intended to sell records but to make their point against the capitalism society and they sadly became part of that system.
The music? As long some teenager hear punk songs and feel like "fighting against the system" or start making music with the same purpose it will be alive.

It has been dead since 1995. There are a few good modern punk bands, Rancid, and I cant name anymore right now. But there are more. But this emo bullshit with HH, Fallout Boy, Panic a.t.d, ect. is not even close to punk. The album American Idiot is not punk.
Primus could be classified as punk, and maybe some RHCP.

I think it is to a large degree. There was a definite difference just from what little I saw in 1979 and what it became in the 80s. In 1979 I went to gigs and never knew what was going to happen. "Will the purple haired bouncers on the stage fling max volume off the stage? They did it to everyone else who climbed on, but Johnny Genocide invited Max on to sing 'Johnnny Got his gun.' Oh they're not gonna throw him off, they're just gonna spit at him non-stop while he sings, okay!" In the 80s it became institutionalized, there'd be a pit and the music started sounding all the same. I liked hardcore mind you, but things went from being unpredictable to being standardized, and looking back I think that was the end of what was punk.
Anyway, if it's not really dead it should be. It wasn't supposed to be continually regurgitated like rock was and still is.

It's not dead, but it's a vegetable, and I don't think it's coming back.
Explanation: With groups like the Adicts still around, it can't be dead. But they're all that's left of real punk, and once they're gone... I doubt that hoping for a revival of the music will do any good (that's supposedly what groups like Sum 41 and Good Charlotte are, and they are pretty much crap), but maybe the attitude can survive...

Punk rock is not dead no matter what anyone says. There really is no explanation to that, believe what you want but punk rock will never die.

Hell no! Punk rock will never die. It may go away from the mainstream, or it may become crappier because of artists like Good Charlotte but it will always stay in the small clubs and independent bands.
