I was driving home today from grocery shopping and i got behind this car filled with old ladies. of course because i was behind them, all i could see was 3 white balls of hair in the back seat and 2 balls of white hair in the front seat. they were driving about 10 miles below the speed limit but the sight made me smile. :o)

Out of the blue, I got an email from an online friend I haven't heard from in almost 4 months. She was going through an extremely difficult time in her life back then, due to family problems, relationship problems and then the diagnosis of a disease that might be fatal. (Talk about a triple-whammy!) :( And she's such a nice person to have such awful things happen to her! Anyway, she went to another country for treatment and decided she needed to stop being in contact with everyone and everything else for a while. I totally respected that. :) Of course, that didn't stop me from thinking good thoughts for her, and wishing her strength and healing.

Anyhoo, today I suddenly got an email from her, so if nothing else, I know she's still alive! *cheer* It was just a short note (I think she might not know if I'm still at the same email address). But the cool thing is that she included a poem -- and not just any poem, but one whose words I could really use RIGHT at this point in my life. Her timing was uncanny! :) So I'm doubly happy about this situation. The main reason being that my friend is still alive and I get the feeling she's doing better. And the secondary reason is because her poem's words really spoke to me.

Realizing that the reason I can finally get more than 4 hours of sleep a night and have quiet in the house is because this Retired Single Parent is NOW officially an Empty Nester -- and I AM ALONE and have my INCOME to myself and NO ONE here to disturb me or want things and I even got a chance to CHOOSE to sit in front of my own TV and CHANGE to a channel I wanted to Watch!

I went to a movie with a guy and he held the door open for me. Ah, perhaps chivalry isn't dead. And maybe it's the simple, little things that are best.

I woke up and the first thing I remembered was the clean bill of health my oncologist gave me yesterday. (Of course I was already smiling 'cos, well, I'm just not all that bright!)
