Why do people still listen to the Beatles? They broke up when John Lennon got shot. Why do people still listen to Led Zeppelin? They never made it into the 80's. Why would anyone listen to N*SYNC, Backstreet Boys or 98 Degrees? Boy bands were a fad that ended 5 years ago.
No matter whether the music genre goes out of style or the bands break up and go their separate ways, their music will always attract someone who grew up listening to it. I grew up listening to Smashing Pumpkins, they're probably my favorite band of all time, and even though they haven't been around for quite a few years now, I have all their CDs and still listen to them pretty regularly.
Just because a band breaks up doesn't mean their music goes away. It just means there won't be any new music to enjoy in the future. But it doesn't mean that you can't still enjoy the old music.

Hell, yes! Even to this day, I still collect their rare CDs. That band has helped me through so much being a depressed teenager, and they inspired me to pick up the guitar. Without them existing, I'd probably be dead in some ditch somwhere.

Because the music is still good. I listen to alot of groups that have disbanded. I even listen to some artists who are (gasp) dead!

I don't listen to them, but I used to read Melissa Auf der Maur's father's newspaper column and I always thought she was cool. (When she was like 12.)
