I work with the mentaly ill and they are the sweetest people, but the manager and the assistant manager of the site treat me and them very badly. They use company money to buy food for themselves, and the assistant manager is driving the company van for personal use. They also talk to the individuals like they are crap. One day I could'nt take it any more, they wanted me to write down everything that I did in the 8 hour shifts that I had worked, I mean everything from minute to second and I thought it was very wrong espeacially the way that they would talk to me, like I just commeted a crime. They made me feel like they could not trust me. I worked hard at this place, stayed late, only to be treated badly so I got so fed up with it and walked out. What would you have done?

A majority of workers are subjected to mistreatment by management personnel This is ridiculous and unprofessional behavior. It almost makes you forget they chose to be in their positions. It almost makes you forget that they are the ones responsible for employee morale and a positive, safe and non-hostile working environment. Unfortunately, this bad behavior is condoned for the simple fact it is allowed to happen unchallenged. Turning a blind eye and a deaf ear to incidents of management abuse allows it to continue. Just because they are managers does not mean they can act out, threaten, scream, insult, harass or intimidate with impunity. Higher management can sometimes discourage reporting abuses of this nature since they can often be the cause of the problem. Managers are known to say “If you are not feeling stressed, then I am not doing my job!” Job pressure can be as unpleasant for your manager as it is for you. Sometimes you have to remind them that not even a child should tolerate abuse. Report the company to the State Service Licensing Agency and notify the Department of Public Health and report resident abuse, mistreatment, or neglect, call the Better Business Bureau and Workforce Services Agency.
If they terminate you for walking out, you may have a claim of wrongful termination and discrimination.

Unless there is a person that is higher up than the manager, there's not a whole lot you can do. You need to tell your manager's boss what is going on. Ask other employees if they notice the same issues and have them go with you. If there is nobody higher than the manager, you might need to contact someone locally. Better business bureau or something of that nature. There should be no reason these people are acting like this.

It sounds like they tried to make you miserable to get you to resign. This often happens when an honest employee won't collude with dishonest management. As long as they remained in their jobs and no higher level manager oversaw their work, your situation would have continued to worsen--you had to leave. The only thing you might have done differently was look for another job before you left so you wouldn't be unemployed during your transition--or did you do that?
Sorry you had this awful experience.

Good for you. If their not going to treat you with the same respect they expect and apparently take at all costs than you have no reason to stay there. You can find another place to help with the disabled.

Probably about the same thing... a letter to their superiors might be in order... especially if it's sent by your attorney!
