NO he didn't did the right thing looking at the occassion and time at that moment. Self respect and ego is a thing when it gets pesonal but when u r playing for ur country in Something like World Cup football final then these two things become secondary in front of ur devotion towards ur country.

Well, it's upto you, if anyone insulted your mother or your family members 3 times what would you do huh? If you are a quit fello then you would'nt tell anything but if yo were'nt a quiet fellow then you would srely hit him. Zidane knew that if he boxed him he would use his hands or if he kicked him he would have injured his private parts and there is a rule in football that you should do fairplay in football so that's why he headbutted him so that materazzi won't die and that he would be stickiing to he rules.
I honur Zidane for his sportsmanship and his respect for his mother and sister. It is sad that such a great footballer quit playing professional football.

according to me there can be only 3 reasons he did that :
1.it was his last chance to win his team the world cup.
2.time was passing by and he just could'nt accept the fact his team would miss it after coming so close.
3.materazzi scored the winning goal and zidane considered him as the culprit.

no ifs and buts about it. if that rats-a**-terrazzi said those things to me, i'd burn him alive and spit on his corpse. zidane was more merciful so he should count himself lucky. as for those who still maintain zizou should have put his team above all else, well you're not him, are you? all he'd ever worked for he put on the line when he did that, he knew it, but in the end his personal dignity was more important to him so who are we to judge that? besides, you can't buy honor with glory. just ask the italians, they know.

i think zidane did too little for that big an offence. he should have punched materazzi in the ******** and knocked the air out of him.when you gotta go off you gotta go off in style making a bold statement.

No.
Though he was justified to be upset about the tauntings, he should have let his feet do the talking. Because he got himself sent off, he let his team down when they needed him the most.
