Your download speed depends on how many other people in your area ALSO have broadband. If there are a lot of people in your specific neighborhood, you will experience a "bottleneck", which means that broadband will slow down drastically. It will never slow down as badly as dialup however, so it is still worth the money.

And as technology improves, it will get faster and faster.

It depends on how many fiber optic cables are installed in your area.

Your download speed will depend on 2 things: your current bandwidth, and the upload capacity of the server you are downloading from. Your bandwidth will vary depending on the network traffic of your service provider. If you are operating at maximum bandwidth, which you said is 2mbps and the opload capacity of the server you are downloading from is also 2 mbps, or 2000Kbps, you will be able to download at 2000Kbps (kilobits) or about 250KBps (kiloBYTES). 1 kilobyte = 8 kilobits.
