Doing a new website

For novice users I recommend Microsoft Front Page.
You can buy this software on amazon.com used for about $65.00. If you buy it new it is over $100.

What is good about Front Page is that after you install it you can go to your browser and find a web site you like. Then go to File on your browser and click on Edit with Front Page. Front Page will automatically bring up most web sites for you to edit locally.
If it asks you for a password just say cancel. If most of the website comes up you can use this as a template to make your website. Remember most people copyright their web sites so you need to modify it enough that they will not get upset. You can then save the web site locally on your computer or save it to your internet host. Some good internet hosts are godaddy.com and ipower.com. Once you sign up with them they will give you a username and password to your domain hosting location on their server. Then you just publish the website you created to that location. Be sure that you name the index file properly according to the hosting company’s instructions. Also try to stick with a simple website without too much graphics and flash. HTML is the best way to setup a website so the search engines like Google can find you.

Remember you must look at all the code on the web site you copy. It looks complicated but you can read what you need. Use the Split Screen option. In the code there will be information about the previous site there you will have to change it and make it have your information. If the code says it is copyrighted I recommend that you find another site or get a template. Microsoft has a lot of templates you can use. You can find then in the File New area. Be sure to change all hyperlinks to your website address.

Once you get setup like this you can edit your website by yourself and you do not have to pay anyone. The time spent to learn the basics of Front Page are well worth the time. You can save money and update the site whenever you want.

When you setup your website be sure to put good content in it. The more quality content the better.

Hope this helps.

I know this is perhaps not the right place to make commercials but if you e-mail me, I can give you some more information on a complete dynamic website for 399,-- With this you'll get a professional custom made design that will fit your needs for your book, 10 to 15 pages if desired, submission to the major search engines and a paypal shopping cart..
The best part is that once this is done, you will never need a web-designer anymore.. You're able to update your content and pictures and products via our own online interface without the need of knowledge of web designing.
Again, I am not going to make commercial here, so I am not going to name names, but e-mail me if you're interested.. Many before you were (including me!!)

I would go to a free web site that has templates to teach you, like www.tripod.com. They have easy directions and choice of icons, type styles and sizes, and ways to add .jpg photos.

You can use the free site until you are satisfied with your web page, then you can upgrade it to Pro, the $8.95 a month hosting site that gives you a free domain name and more benefits.

That is what I did, as it was the one a web design teacher recommended 8 years ago when I took the class. They kept it on free all this time until I recently updated and upgraded it.
