A tutor wouldn't hurt.

Well, I studied by myself for the big test. There was no way I could have afforded to get a tutor or take a class from one of the test companies, as that might have cost $1000 or more. I think my method worked, as I ended up with a 2100.

I would suggest what I did--just buy a good book like the Princeton Review to learn strategy (although the strategy that book used for the reading passages didn't work well--I would just say to start looking for the answers to the reading questions while you are reading the passage and then answer any overall questions at the end). Buy the book of REAL SATs to practice your strategy on real SAT exams to give you the most accurate view of how you'll do.

And make sure to actually set aside time to study, like a few hours a week for a while before the test.

Use a tutor and some computer tests online. For some reason the computer programs for the SAT helped me out more than the book versions. Especially the one with the SAT guru.

It depends on your personality. If you prefer to study by yourself do that. You can get a book to help or look at the college board website for help from them. If your school offers a free class for the SAT preperation I would suggest you take it. It couldn't hurt.

I got 2 perfect scores in math and reading, but my writing score was only 720, for a total of 2320. I only read this SAT guide, and that is how I got such high scores:

I recommend this guide to anyone seeking to get a higher score to get into a first choice college.

I think you should take a class to help you prepare for the S.A.T. That way, you can have a good understanding on how to prepare for the test, as well as taking it.
