also can i post the notice on their door or do i have to give it to them face to face

any other info u can give me will be a big help-- i want both the rent and posseion of the unit

You can post the notice on the door, but you must also mail them a copy of the notice.

Unfortunately the notice is only good if given face to face.

It is not my understanding that weekends are excluded at all from 5 day notices.
But definately has to be face to face. If they don't know that, they may take it off their diir and heed it, but if they don't heed a notice posted on their door, you have to start all over again with another notice.
Rent is another issue over which you may have to get an attorney if they are unwilling to give it. If they do not give their rent or have damaged the unit in anyway other that regular wear and tear, you may keep the security deposit.
Don't expect them to sign anything. They will probobly least want to do that. Just hand it to them. The notice will then be "served".

Ummm -- this appears to be an eviction notice not a notice that you are quiting work as first read.

Are you sure that 5 days notice is sufficient within the law? I believe in most states it is at least 30 if not 60 days for an apartment. Just to be safe, you'd better check your local statutes. It would be best if you confronted your tenants directly to insure they have the notice in their hands. You may also profit from a registered, return reciept letter. That way you have a signature proving they received the letter/notice.

That's a great question... you could probably get it answered for free by a local real estate company who deals in renting properties. My guess is it's probably business days... I mean, it wouldn't probably make sense to include holidays and weekends. If I were you, I'd have someone personally deliver it to them... otherwise they might claim never to have received it.
