trying to figure out if you have to pay taxes on pension and social securtiy when you retried

Pensions, (paid by companies), are not usually taxed and Social Security is never taxed by states. The IRS taxes 80% of SSI, when a set income is earned, inclusive of SSI.

When Clinton was Governor of Arkansas, he tried to tax SSI. The Federal Government stopped him.
He did initiate sales tax on all foods.

Yes and your 401K ETC. were tax deferred you pay tax as you use them.
