This sounds a lot like Ammonia poisoning. This can happen when you have too many fish or adding too many fish at the same time, this is very commom in new tanks. Ammonia is created by fish waste and not having enough bacterial colonies to convert it to Nitrite.

Get a test kit that tests the water for Ammonia, you should be able find this at any store that sells fish supples. These test kits are always handy to have around and the water should be tested at least once a week with test kits that test for Ph, Ammonia, Nitrite, hardness and Nitrate.

If the test shows it has high levels of Ammonia you need to do a 50% water (The water should have been treated to remove chlorine) change and get Ammo-Lock to remove Ammonia. Feedings should be restricted so that additional waste is reduced and remove any uneaten food.

Afterwards test the water regularly and over the next few days do 10% to 25% water changes as needed. Good luck with your fish.

Change half of the water every other day and add salt for freshwater aquariums. Check to make sure that our heater is not malfunctioning, and if you can, increase the water flow.

The water could be too cold or too warm, the water may be tap water. They could even be old, with fish it really hard to know.
