why are suv drivers so?

why are they so ignorant and think they own the roads? is it beacuse they sit higer than regular drivers do, and think everyone else is below them?

Yes I think it is. I have been ran off the road many a times by ignorance. Gosh I hate them all they make my gas prices too high.

I borrowed a relatives SUV before, I don't see what the big deal is. They don't feel safer,steering is horrible and they have all the same goodies as a car of the same date. What sucked was I agreed to fill up the tank each time I used it so I was blowing 60 to 80 bucks to fill the damn thing up when I was only using it for 3 hours.

Theres a book series called "everything you know is wrong" which is basically journalists and professors writing abunch of articles on history, consumer culture and things we typical dont think about.

One article was about who auto makers target for SUV's and the journalist found in quarterly reports that people who lack social skills, insecure and people who are scared of driving were targeted as customers for SUV's which explains alot as I worked 3 years at a gas station working my way through college and I noticed SUV drivers were usualy distant, rude and obnoxious.

i somewhat agree with those who say it's not right to overgeneralize. you have a lot of both good and bad drivers driving all sorts of cars. i think it's more of which state you're from, because every state has its own degree of law enforcement on the roads, depending on how much money there is. for example, i used to live in new jersey, but now i've been living in pennsylvania for the past six months. i commute every day to new jersey for work in my very small four cylinder suv (which is prone to rollover and so i make sharp turns at 10mph). i see a lot more pullovers by the NJ state police than i do in PA. and no matter how much you might think jersey drivers are obnoxious, PA drivers are even worse. they don't use their blinkers, but rather they cut you off right in front of you. i can go on and on, but i'll stop here.

Please don't generalize.. I am an SUV driver and consider myself reasonably respectful on the roads. I have an SUV because it is easier for me to get in and out of with a bad back.. I agree that some are ignorant and think they own the roads, but I have seen sports cars drivers cause many more accidents. Some drivers are just plain rude and they are the ones that are arrogant in person whether they are driving or not.
Sitting higher doesnt mean safer..A lot of SUV's have a higher roll over incidence, although with some drivers you cant tell they are aware of it.
I am not disgreeing with you on point, but rather the generalization of all of us.

There are common complaints about people driving any type of vehicle - suv, sports car, minivan, old beater, motorcycles...
the moral of the story is that 99% of the public just bad at driving but everyone thinks that they are part of the 1%.

I don't really think that's true for all suv drivers. I'm sure some are that way, but please don't catagorize all drivers into one group. I have an suv, and not because I want to be above everyone, but because for my family situation, it just works better.

They're in all sorts of vehicles, not just SUV's. A lot of people just need to be the most important and first all the time. Must go back to their childhood.

Yes. I've sat in the driver's seat of one of those things, and it's very easy to start thinking that you are above it all when you're up there.

I have a sub-suv (its a bit smaller) and I don't think i'm better then anyone else. Some people are just bad drivers!
