You can log on to www.indianrail.gov.in and check the status.
Alternatively you can call 135 and check the reservation status.
You can become a member at www.irctc.co.in and then too can check the status.
If u r living in mumbai and are using hutch or dolphin then u can check by sms also.

and check Passenger/PNR Status by using
ur PNR no.
SMS 676747 and know ur details.
