The Russkies were the bad guys all along, as was soon found out. The U.S. reluctantly dropped atomic bombs and has paid for it psychologically ever since.

From what I remember the American did all the fighting to get to Berlin. The Russians came in at the last second and got their first. Yes the Americans dropped the two bombs killing millions, but their was no choice. We were fighting a war with the Germans and going into another with the Japanese. I would rather see a million enemy dead than a couple million on boths sides dead from a long war. Russia really did nothing for the war compared to the other allied nations.

Point 1- The A bomb was dropped on Hiroshima after they had been warned. That did not defeat them so another bomb was dropped on Nagasaki. They then surrendered and saved countless thousands of their lives and about a million American causalities had we had to invade Japan. Taking this into account, the USA actually saved Japanese lives.Point 2-Yes, there were millions of the Russians killed in WW 2. It was their enemy-Nazi Germany that killed them. The same nation that they had a non invasion treaty with and broke it and invaded Russia any way.The USA held up their forces and allowed the Russians to go into Berlin because of the danger of the two forces accidentally shooting one another. What would have happened if the USA and its allies had lost the war to Germany or Japan? You or I would not have the freedom of saying what we want on the Internet is one consequence. Thomas P-get a grip on yourself-The Russians were able to fight on and eventually win against Germany because of the vast amounts of arms that the USA supplied them with. As it was, it was by the grace of God that Russia was able to hold on.

The US used two nuclear devices, (all we had) because the estimates of US casualties were to approach 1 million for Operation Olympic, the invasion of the Japanese mainland. They had proven since at least 1937 in the Chinese campaign, to give no terms nor would they accept any, other than death for the Emperor. They attacked Pearl Harbor, Singapore and the Philippines, and also set the tone of conduct for the Pacific War. There was no realistic, non-revisionist alternative at the time.
The US and Britain knew they made a pact with the Devil when they supported Stalinist Russia, but the "enemy of my enemy is my friend" mentality was used. The Russians killed millions of their own as well as about 20 million Ukrainians, turned a blind eye to the Holocaust, (as you know, when they originally were an Ally of Germany).
All in all it was better to have the US or the UK meddling in your national affairs than it was for Russia. My ancestors came from Russian occupied Poland, and were treated like animals, being bought and sold with the land, and left uneducated. They wished to subjugate the entirety of a country for their sole benefit.
One would even take the French (gag) over them as their Imperialist masters.

We were wary of the russians even before the war.
Remember, after ww1, America occupied Russia. (Our history books don't tell you that one!) We were never on great terms with soviet russia.
But when germany made russia an enemy, they became our allies.
The leaders knew the land our armies occupied at the end of the war would not change hands. That was Pattons reason for rushing to Berlin, mostly. But Eisenhower said the Russians had the right to take berlin and they were allowed to. (Thats what the US history books say, anyway...)

Let's look at things in the balance.
-The U.S. dropped nuclear bombs, killing thousands in Japan.
-The Soviets went on a rape rampage as they advanced into German territory, raping some 2 million women and causing the death of some 200,000 others- a number slightly less than the total number of Japanese killed by the nuclear attacks and their associated affects.
-The U.S. had a formal policy of neutrality before entering the war, but assisted the Allies through Lend-Lease.
- The U.S.S.R. had a policy of cooperation with Germany prior to the invasion, and had invaded Finland, Poland, and the Baltic states immediately prior to fighting Germany. After invading Poland, the Soviets killed 20,000 Polish offers at Katyn.
-After the war, the U.S. permitted free elections in the territories they occupied.
-After the war, the U.S.S.R. imposed communist regimes on occupied territories, sending thousands into the Gulag system and suppressing anti-communist rebellions in Hungary, Poland, and Czechoslovakia.

johnnygl02, what the hell are you on about?
The Russian armies fought Hitler for over 2 years before you Yanks even arrived! They drained Hitlers Reich of manpower, fought the wehrmacht to a standstill and forced Hitler to take men away from the Western Front. Do you seriously think we couldnt have formed a beach head at Normandy if Stalin hadn't forced his men to fight on?
The Russians fought all the way to Berlin, and the hard way. They tore through Poland and Eastern Germany before fighting through teh German border fortifications. Hitler didnt have the manpower to fight both them and the Allies, so he threw everythign he had at the Russians.
They won the war. Millions died to crush the Reich, adn i wont stand for some ignorant Yank who feelsl like re-writing the books.
NB
and that goes for you Earl. Jesus guys, get a grip on History, will you?

It is likely that you mean the United Statesians, There is no such a thing as ‘American’ nationality, Most American had nothign to do with WWII America is a continent with many nations in it. The US never named itself the name of the United States is a designation it comes from the end of the Declaration of Independence, "WE, therefore, the Representatives of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, in GENERAL CONGRESS, Assembled...". The preamble to the U.S. Constitution reiterated the phrase: "We the People of the United States..." (The authors of these two documents probably used the phrase "united states" in place of a list of colonies/states because they remained uncertain at the time of drafting which colonies/states would sign off on the sentiments therein.) The geographic term "America" specifies the states' home on the American continent.
It is therefor incorrect to refer to US citizens as Americans with the intent of denoting citizenship, or the United States as America with the intent of denoting a nation. Americans have a term for US citizens, we are called United Statesians by the rest of Americans, to say American with the intent of denoting citizenship or America when we mean the United States reflects poorly on our attitude towards the 70% of Americans that are not United Statesians.
