i am thinking about buying a puppy right now. i live in an apartment building so i have to consider many options. it has to be a smaller dog, it has to be easy to train, not a big barker, etc. so the criteria is more important than the looks at this point, but of course i want a cute puppy!

Some people do buy pets according to looks and breeding. If your a farmer and you want help with your sheep you would not buy a mini pin or rotie. You would research and find that you need a collie or even a sheep dog, not because of the looks but because the dogs are bred for one reason, herding. Other people buy a dog for the looks, a woman may want a small cute dog like a poodle or yorkie, guys may want a more masculine dog like a boxer. And then some people buy dogs for other reasons, like hair length or color. I personally buy my pets because they are my family. My dog has just as much right as my brother ,if not more, to sit in a chair in the living room. So it really depends if you need the dog for companionship, work purpose, or just to look at.

I have two cats. The first one, Khattman, was a stray who decided to move in with me - I had no choice in the matter! The second, Chloe, I got as a companion for Khattman. She was from a rescue home and I hadn't seen her at all, just answered an advert in the local paper. It's worked out really well with both. Khattman is off his head, total loon, whereas Chloe is quite timid (but improving all the time) and 'girlie'. So I didn't get either for what they looked like or a pre-known personality, it was all sort of fate. And I'm chuffed! Sue xx

I have 2 cats right now. I think the first one, Tabby, I picked him out becuase he was so pretty too, but when I went to the vets offices he was the only male they had, and he looked at me with those sad eyes saying 'take me, take me' so we took him..
and he has been my baby ever since..
And the 2nd one Festus, was my mohter's cat to begin with, but when my mother got sick and went into the nursing home, I just coulnd't leave that poor animal alone to fend for herself - so I took her in...
She is very VERY VOCAL and there are times I wish I hadn't taken her in, but I love her like part of my family.

How do you ever get to know a pet before you buy it? Any pets we bought you go over to the place give them the money and they give you the pet. you might look at it for 5 minutes but how do you ever get to know it? Any animal will get used to someone even if it's a bunny or a crocodile.

I have a rat named Small (since he is fat) and a dead shark in a jar named Nimbus. Oh and some ants in an ant farm. I have the rat because someone couldn't take care of him anymore, I would have gotten him on my own because I like pet's company and teaching them things. I have Nimbus because he is very low maintenance. And the ants just because they're interesting.

For companionship. I have only bought one animal, a dog, because she was being abused and I wanted to get her out of that situation. She is now mentally off because of the abuse of the first owner.
