I had two bettas (in separate tanks of course), and they lived about five years. Easiest fish I've ever had, no filters, no heaters, no air pumps.
Now I have goldfish. Easy, too, but they do need a good filtering system and more space. With them I have a nine year old plecostomus, huge and healthy.
I would recommend either of those for starters.
And guppys are quite easy, two, but they reproduce like mad and i don't know if you want that.

I like Arowanas, if you have big tank like mine. I have two Arowanas. This is a fish you can not buy at Petco or Petsmart. YOu can buy the cheap ones in some chinese fish stores. Arrownas can be very expensive. they can cause up to $5000.00 U.S dallars.

Check out the links below. I know you will enjoy them.

**they require Big fish tanks and you will only need one fish in there. Very nice watch him swim.**

If you want a fish that is pretty, active and relatively easy to care for, try getting a couple of Platys to start. If you want them to breed, you will be pleased.. these little guys breed easily.. and they are live bearing. I recently watched one of mine give birth to 43 little ones.. it was very cool.

Hours or days?

Betas are cool because if you ignore them they'll survive for five or six days, no problem. If you're bored you can hold up a mirror to his little jar and watch him bash himself senseless into the side.
