They do make powder foundation which can be applied alone and takes the place of liquid "base" makeup. However, the majority of people I know use powder as something that goes on top of and after the foundation. Powder not only sets your makeup, making it stay on longer, it helps absorb oil throughout the day to decrease the shiny appearance. It may be reapplied several times during the day if your skin is really oily.

It's talc.......and if they use it from a compact, it's tinted talc. It can do several things.....setting the foundation, controlling oiliness, setting lipstick. Can be applied with the appicator or brush. Most people prefer the brush technique. Clinique makes one....Super Powder Double Face Powder that is fantastic! Good Luck!

Most cosmetic powders are made from finely ground talc or chalk. It's used to reduce facial glare and absorb skin oils. Pigments are added to enhance facial color.

Powder makeup can be used as foundation instead of liquid or cream foundation. You apply it like regular foudation.
