Private companies can already do that. It's been that way since the Internet was created. Since day one, service providers and consumers had access to as much bandwidth as they were willing to pay for. It's always been that way.

Why? Because the private companies own the data-trunklines. So, they have every right to control what goes over them. And bandwidth limitations have been used for decades without most people ever noticing or complaining.

That law is basically nothing more than another attempt by the govt to regulate free market commerce. If you don't want AT&T or Spring to alter bandwidth speeds based on what people pay, then don't do business with them. That's the way capitalism works.

It's not the just Internet that our leaders want to control, it's the free exchange of ideas and information.

If you have ever checked out the website for Cheney's "Project For The New American Century," otherwise known as PNAC, you'll find that they released a report in 2000 entitled, "Rebuilding America's Defenses." Great choice of title, since it implies all the goals listed within it are chosen for a noble purpose.

Under the heading 'Key Findings' within this report, one of the goals listed is "Control the new 'international commons' of space and 'cyberspace'. "

PNAC was founded by people who are currently in power in our government. If you look at it's 'Statement of Principles,' you'll find it signed by Jeb Bush, Dick Cheney, Steve Forbes, Lewis Libby, Donald Rumsfeld, and Paul Wolfowitz, among others.

Control information, and you can control people. If you can make billions doing it, so much the better. Traditional American media has already fallen victim to these people. The Internet has taken its place. I doubt the efforts by those now in power in our government to control it will ever stop, even after their current terms end.

"Moveon?" Nothing but a biased, propaganda rag. I think Congress should leave the Internet alone. What will all the scam artists and pedophiles do if there are controls? They have lives, too.

The opposite of the word "Pro" is the word "Con".

So the opposite of "Progress" would be "Congress"
