There is this girl with a strong opinion and support for republican ideas that has enabled me to look at it from a new perspective.

New perspectives are good.

Even better, don't label yourself. Be an individual with your own thoughts and beliefs, regardless of how others might label them.

The first answer was very good, short, and to the point. But may I add something. Most Liberals(Democrats) or Conservatives(Republicans) get so brainwashed in either one or the other that they put blinders on, and cannot see when one or the other has a good idea.Don't get into this rut. Be independent, than you can look at either side or another point of view without any influence

I agree with coragryph. I am neither a Republican nor Democrat, although I tend to be a little right of center - some of my views are Libertarian. Best thing is to vote for those whose views best support your core beliefs and think for yourself - never get trapped into "if politician 'X' supports Unions I must vote for him". Heck, I support them myself, having been a Union Rep - but there are a lot of other issues to consider. Also educate yourself and follow the news. And whatever you do, DO NOT ACT LIKE A BORN-AGAIN CONVERT!!! It is entirely possible that one of the views you have reversed yourself on may actually be closer to the truth than your former belief - but people have pride and don't want to get bashed. Always try to remain civil in the face of dissention.

Hey keep an open mind. I'm a liberal and I believe you have to do what's right for you. If Republican ideas suit your needs then I say go for it!! Just do me a favor and don't start in with all the mindless "LIBTARD & DEMONCRAT" postings.....Let's try and be a little bit more intelligent than that! Good luck!

The reality is that most people are neither "republican" or "liberal", but have unique ideas on every topic that may or may not line up with whatever label someone wants to tag you with. Labels are convienent for people who don't want to take the time to get to know you. Other than that, they aren't worth much.

You'll never find a label that fits anyone perfectly. If you take the stereotypical (and typically incorrect) descriptions of liberal, conservative, or anything else at face value, you're destined to walk around with a head full of nonsense that obscures actual issues and what they mean to you.

I am neither, just try to be Biblical in my worldview and lifestyle.

I think [Bible] Christianity combined with Libertarianism is a good way to go, as long as the Bible is preeminent.

1 Peter 3:15 (KJV)
But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

I used to be a whiny liberal with my hand out, wanting the govt (taxpayers) to help me.
I finally realized that the only help I was going to get, had to come from myself.
It works!!!!!!!!!
Get up off the sofa, become a conservative, work hard, and save; and you will have a good life. (And so will your family.)
