The Maya overexploited their lands and depleted the fertility. Toward the end of the Classical Period (the "Terminal Classic period of the 8th and 9th centuries), overpopulation and climatic change led the Maya to become more war-like and to fight amonst themselves, city-state vs. city-state. Depopulation (by as much as 90-95%) due mostly to drought and famine led to the near total destruction of Maya civilization. Deforestation had resulted in regional temperatures rising. (The soil in the region of the classical era Maya depletes in fertility rapidly following clearing.)
As the Maya moved north into the Yucatan, they may have clashed with the later-arriving Toltecs, but over much of the period of Maya history they seem to have had few enemies. The Spaniards eventually conquered the post-Classic period Maya somewhat later than they decimated the populations to the north, the Aztec and neighboring cultures.

Some believe that they moved on because of food scarcity. It could have been enemies but I don't think most history books subscribe to that theory.

What happens is only the result of a previous action, thought, sentiment, desire...Law of Attraction Rules...and what must come as result of these, WILL come to pass. Like attracts like.
