I live in Los Angeles, CA (as does my computer, lol). I'm going to go to France and I want to take it with me. How can I make the computer work in France? It's a desktop computer...

I also want to take monitor, speakers, etc... How can I efficiently convert the power from French power to US power? I'm a little tight budget-wise. Can someone help, please?

Thanks for all of your answers, but many of you simply wrote that I need a power adaptor.

How should I know what to look for? Many of you said I need a 240V or a 230V converter/inverter... but what about the wattage of the computer, monitor, speakers, etc?

What converter should I get? Can someone please direct me to it. I'd appreciate websites. :-/

OK, SMARTIES!!...

Let's say I switch the red thing on the back of my PC from 110V to 220V. How the hell will it work? Magic? I'll OBVIOUSLY either need another cord (with the French adapter) or I'll need a plug-in to change the US adapter to a French adaptor before plugging it in! You can't just simply say, "switch the thing behind the power supply" and expect it to work! I need helpful answers, at LEAST. Besides that, how will my monitor work? How will my speakers work? Sheesh!

Check for what you need here:

(France uses 230V, but I think 220V is ok)

The French power supply is 220-240 volt using 2 pin round plugs. All you need is an adaptor - readily available in France and probably quite easy to get hold of in the US - they only cost a few $'s.

Most tower desktops have a switch on the back, on the power supply, next to the plug receptacle that you can switch to the proper power amount, ie, from 110 to whatever they use.. as for the monitor, if it doesn't plug into your power supply, like they used to, get an inverter, but, contact a tech there in LA and ask them..

There should be a red switch on the power supply on your computer that has 2 different voltages on it. Switch it over to the right one, and there you go! Umm...you're going to need an adapter of sone kind though.

dont forget to check the back of the computer. some have a switch that will let u use 120 or 240, but not all computers have this.

You can buy transformers at Radio Shack to change the voltage, but many don't have a slot for the ground plug
