The UK is made up of four different parts. Two countries England and Scotland, Wales which is a principality and Northern Ireland which is a province. Scotland is the oldest FA in the world and along with the other home nations made the modern game international. Only at the commonwealth games do British home nations compete separately but there are exceptions notably hockey where there are four home nation teams but they compete at the Olympics as team GB

Well, actually Britain is 3 countries (England, Scotland and Wales). The United Kingdom is 4 countries as it includes Northern Ireland.
