So you’re at a restaurant and you see a $20 under a recently occupied table. The bill is gone so you know it wasn't to pay for the dinner (it's a restaurant where the server immediately brings the bill up front so they would have noticed if the money was missing). Also, knowing the restaurant is not very expensive a $20 tip for a table for 2 does not seem very likely.

Would you quietly sneak over to the table and pick up the money & put it in your pocket, leave it there, or turn it over to the server?

First, I would make sure that the people who were at the table were gone before I just grabbed their money. If they were still there, I would ask them about it. If they weren't, I would pocket the money, especially since I just blew all of mine at the mall. I would, however, leave a pretty generous tip. I think that seems fair, don't you? Good question!

I'd leave it there, just in case it was intended as a tip and had fallen to the floor. I've given some servers really big tips for exceptional service, so I wouldn't rule it out as a tip just because it was a $20.
Chances are, someone will pick it up that is more needy than me, so I'd just leave it there.

I am shocked at a lot of the answers here. Looks like a lot of you would grow up to be politicians, What happen to our honor system that this country cherrished for so many years.? It is not your money. Tell the manager or the server.

leave it...these other people are jackasses, saying they would take it...it's not yours to take...i am a server, and sometimes you do get $20 tips, and other times, people take their check for receipt purposes and just leave the money without the actual bill...

we make $2.13 an hour, plus tips, (in most places), DON'T STEAL FROM US!

That's a tough one. I would love to think my morals would kick in and I would turn it over. There was a circumstance at walmart, at one of those do it yourself checkouts where the person before me never collected his change and I turned it over. So, I hope that I would be that honest again. But, you never really know what your actions will be until you are in the circumstance. There is a good chance I would turn it over to the waitress or waiter so that he/she would in turn place it in their pocket.

I would take it, give it to the server, and make sure that they knew it came from that table.

good question. i'd like to think i would give it to the server. but i would just pocket it. the server would probably do the same thing, so why not me? i could use it to get a case of bud light.
