Is it normal for a woman to be married for 20+ years without noticing her name wasn't on assets? You've lived with it this long, why is it now a problem? Yes, it doesn't show respect, or acknowledge your worth; but, what else is new? Now, getting a 45-50 year old guy to change lifelong attitudes is a tough job. Unless this has been brewing for years, I'd say forget it. Life ain't perfect, and in this, your husband isn't close to perfect.

if it was this way from the beginning, why would you expect it to change? I have a few questions for you:
1. how old is your husband?
2. do you have a job?
3.did he own the house when you married him?
4.did he already have that checking account when you married him?
as far as the credit cards, sometimes it's easier to get them with just one person depending on the other persons credit history.
i suspect things have always been this way and in the very beginning you didn't mind it because he was "taking care of you" and everything else so you didn't have to worry about it. but as you've gotten older you've started to feel as if you don't have any control over your life. you can't expect him to change now.
the thing that i do agree with you on is that he should have insurance on you. but as for everything else, you need to change. if you don't have a job, go get one. and get on that offers insurance. open up your own bank account. get your own credit cards. you cannot change other people, but you can change yourself.
one more thing, what would you do if he died tomorrow? everything is in his name so i suspect that you don't even know all of the assets he has and you wouldn't even know where to start looking. and how would you take care of yourself if he doesn't have as much as you think he does?
good luck.

I dont agree. I have been married for 20 years and all my assets like the house, are in my wifes name and so are all my bank accounts and she holds add ons to all my credit cards. I have had no problems whatsoever till date and we lead a full life - a life full of hapiness and peace. I trust her with all my heart and thats enough reason for me to trust in her and continue remaining with her and earning more for her security later on in life.

If this is the situation you're in, you need to make some serious changes, and quickly. You are still young enough I'm sure, to go back to school and make a life for yourself. The life you have now, is not "life" at all. I might be making generalizations, but seriously, you need to make some drastic changes, immediately! Good Luck!!

Very much normal. Here in India Hindu marriages last more than 50 Years and still going strong.Marriage in a sense is more of companionship than anything else.
