Turn everything off. PCs are deisgned to run in an always on state, so you won't hurt the computer if you leave it on, however, if you leave it on all the time you might as well walk up to the arctic circle with a wagonload of de-icer and spread it around a bit. So do turn off, please.

once ive used the computer i always switch it off, it doesnt matter if i use the computer once during the day or 20 times. this may sound a harsh but people either leave the computer due to laziness so the computer doesnt have to reboot everytime they want to use it but what about energy efficiency? global warming?

the computer still consumes 50% electricity when its in hibernation mode. why not just turn it off? whats more important global warming or the stupid computer?

we all need to act now to make sure we dont have extreme cases of global warming- floods, droughts hurricanes etc etc.

please do your bit to use less electricity- turn off computers, switching t.vs off from the mains. Just think of all the money you'll save on the electricty bill!

you may think im preaching a little, ok, not a little, a lot. im very passionate on issues such as global warming, helping the less fortunate people in the world.

Turn off in the End of the day

I'm told the hardest thing on a computer is the initial boot up. I leave mine on standby or hibernate and my monitor goes off (black screen) when not used for 10 min.

This is fine but you do have to reboot once in a while depending on CPU use.

I'm switched on all time. Turning on and off frequently can loosen the chips eventually. On the other side of the coin, the fan inside will wear out quicker.

Just like cars... is it better to the gear change up or down so as to reduce speed or use the brake? One will eventually wear out before the other.

You pays your money and takes your choice!

Just switch it off at the end of the day; other times leave it on stand by.

Keep this in mind, when you constantly turn your system on and off, the components in it tend to swell and shrink due to heating and cooling. This causes fatigue on parts and the solder joints! Another common misbelief is that turning your system off in an electrical storm will keep it safe from surge currents! NOTHING short of unplugging it and disconnecting from the internet will stop this!

best to just shut it off whenever you are done with it. when you leave the computer on, it'll go into hibernation mode and will consume electrcity and starting it back up again will be slow sometimes since the processor and all that are kind of toasty after lengthy times of being left on. when you shut if off you give the computer time to cool down and restore.
