Can community organisations set up for heterosexual women experiencing domestic violence be supportive, or are more specialist services needed?

there are specific groups out there for lesbian domestic violence which could be more helpful. they'll probably understand the issues at hand a bit better than heterosexual groups. contact some glbtiq organisations in your area to find a group where you fit in

Call the gay center and ask for a counselor who has worked with domestic violence.

they are not just set up for heterosexual women.there are plenty of them but are just hard to find which is possibly so p issed off husbands dont come kicking the door down every 5 minutes.

I don't see why they wouldn't. Try them. Is there a gay lesbian community center in your area? Also, look in the pink pages. It will probably involve you networking with your state and town governments for a bit.

The police can be a good first stop. If they can't help their DV unit should know the numbers of people who can.

my guess is the support you can get won't be confined to helping heterosexual women. try ringing the police maybe, they will be able to advise you.

definitely. spousal abuse is spousal abuse. . . you *could* try asking a local glbt organization if they have anything for women in that situation.
