I'm wondering if anyone has an idea of when the Intel Core 2 Duo and the extreme one are coming out. Also, I hear people saying that Amd is gonna beat Intel soon after but what do you guys think? Should I get the Intel when it comes out or wait for AMD?

Intel Core 2 Duo was released a few weeks ago. Now systems are coming out on the market that run on Intels new Core architecture. Intel claims (and independent tests have proved this) that their new chips beat out opponents (basically AMD) by delivering 40% more performance and by using 40% less energy.
Intel was outmatched by AMD earlier but once they realized it they put all their resources into making new better chips and here they are.
If you were to wait for the AMD chip to come out by that time Intel would have announced some other great chip and then AMD would do the same so it would go back and forth. I would say you buy a PC with the new Core 2 Duo chip with it and that should last you a few years until you want to upgrade again.
But one thing I would recommend you do is wait for Windows Vista to come out and then you can buy a PC with Vista on it already without having to go through the trouble of upgrading it.

it came out july 27 its available in stores. Dell and HP have already begun putting it in their computers.
AMD has always beat Intel, but right now the fastest processor is the Core 2 Duo, not even AMD has anything faster at the moment. When AMD does come out with it's new chip i'm sure it will beat Intel, but best wait till the new windows comes out in early next year to see how they work with the new software.
