I am writing a book on my pc and just wanted to know how many pages is adequate for a single chapter. My first chapter is 4 pages long and my 2nd chapter is 3 pages long. I have worked really hard on both of these and feel that there's nothing more i can add to them to make them longer, without ruining the smooth running of the story line.

2 A4S at least, having 3 or more A's would be more than adequate since you wouldn't want to bore your reader by drowning him with so much adjectives for descriptions.

I'd say how you're doing it is ideal, you can't make it too long and risk those readers skip a page..s nor opt for short elaborations and hunger your readers for more details. What's enough is good, never exaggerate neither just to buy more spaces.Keep it to the point, leaving your readers an interest to satisfy and a mind to concentrate while reading your masterpiece. You're right when you wrote it has to run smooth and that's the idea exactly when you laid down the basics of book-writing.

Good luck and remember not to forget fun while doing your passion.

There are no hard and fast rules in writing so it is really up to you.

Have a look at the books on your book shelves to get a general ideas. Ideally, though, keep the numbers of pages per chapter around the same length.

It may throw the reader out if one chapter is 7 pages and another 15, and then the rest are about 6-7.

A possible plan is rough out on A4 sheets what happens in each chapter in the whole book - it will help with the balance of your work and allow, not only to see how long it will eventually be, but gives you an opportunity to see how it flows (It will also allow easier planning of sub-plots)

Good Luck in your work.

I don't know the subject matter of yor book, if it's a short history of lawnmowers, or a detective-murder mystery, or whatever, but a chapter could be 50 pages, or one page. A chapter should contain a turning point in the story, and if that's the cop shaking down ten sources over 50 pages and getting the same line from all of them, then that's a chapter, the next chapter could be the eleventh guy who tells him different, on just one page. Obviously, you don't need to resolve EVERYTHING in one chapter, or you can't bring a reference back from the front of the book... Have someone read it, who reads a lot of novels, and ask what they think of your compartmentalisation.

Good luck!

The pocket books are virtually A5 and in case you recommend to apply that e book, nicely about one hundred fifty - 2 hundred A4 length pages. yet when the e book is more effective, then it should be virtually same, may be seventy 5 to eighty%. i'm a e book reviewer and get books of diverse sizes and diverse fonts. may be you ought to seem at a e book of the dimensions that you've in innovations and communicate with the writer.
