A common misconception is that you need to remove hummingbird feeders so they will migrate. In fact, this is the time they need the feeders the most. They instinctively know the right time to leave and one day you will realize that they are no longer visiting your feeders.

By the way, have you seen the hummingbird nesting platforms that you can put up around your house? I had never heard of such a thing until someone asked a question about them and I did some research. Do a Yahoo search for "hummingbird nest platforms" (include the quotation marks) and explore the results. I intend to put up a few platforms next spring. I think it will be way cool to watch them raise their young.

Good luck with your hummingbirds.

Hummers are migratory and very territorial. I am in Florida and when the temperatures get about 50 to 60 degrees for a few days straight the hummers leave, They will return in the spring though.

Love watching them as one tries to keep others from feeding at the feeders.

Depending on where you live. In South Florida, we have a hummingbird that lives year round here. They love the powder puff (Calliandra - the pink blooms year round and the dwf. red Calliandra), also the Turk's Cap.
