I have acne. I hate it. I wanted to try Pro-Active, but my parents don't want to order it. I've tried lots of different things, some work for like, one day and then they don't do anything. Some have even done things like dry them up and it left scars. Is there something out there that will get rid of my acne, and is there something to get rid of the scars, that is sure to work?

Going to a dermatologist would be the best thing to do. My parents never took me to a dermo and now that I am in my 50's I have scarring on my face from all of the acne that could have been avoided! (I don't blame my parents, back in the 60's people rarely went to the dr. unless it was a dire situation).

If you can't get to a dermo, then save up your money and order Pro-Active. It worked very well for my daughter throughout middle and early high school. When she began to break more frequently, I took her to the dermo. Her skin is perfectly clear and beautiful and she is in her 20's now. But she does take an oral antibiotic when she needs to and uses a prescription cleanser and prescription topical cream. It takes care of it immediately. You really need to have a dermatologist assess your skin and prescribe what is right for your skin type.

The Pro-Active worked very well but because her dad and I both had severe acne growing up I didn't want her to even begin to struggle with her self esteem if she developed acne like us. So it was straight to the dermatologist once it started to get hard to control.

Good luck!

Dry and/or greasy skin due to poor oil composition of the skin. Thick greasy oils clog pores, lack of oil leads to dryness and irritation. You need thin oils to moisturize while dissolving and clearing gunk in your poors. Try fish oil or seafood. 2 tsp fish oil a day or 4 servings of seafood a week. Stick it out for at least 2 months; it will take a long time to replace all your oil. Any effect after 1-2 days is temporary or random; so even if it makes you break out a little at first, you haven't given it a full try yet.

In the short term you can wash and moisturize well, but that will only go so far. Plus excessive washing can be drying and excessive moisturizing can be clogging. Use a small amount of a light moisturizer, made with oil not jelly or grease. Often that means soybean oil or mineral oil. Mineral oil means mined from the ground. So soybean oil is usually better, though mineral oil won't cause too much harm. Clean with soap and water, not a harsh acne cleanser. Even then they only work so well. So you really need the seafood.

Antibiotics aren't really good for bacteria long term, they'll come back in force after. Short term they may help. After you get off them find some kefir with acidophilus listed first or 2nd to replace the friendly bacteria they destroyed. Studies show less illness when you have these bacteria, even outside the stomach in places such as the lungs and elsewhere. You want friendly bacteria to fill the void when the antibiotics stop, not harmful ones.

In the short term you might also try 100,000+ iu retinol vitamin A (a megadose, and too much for normal use) or one of the acne drugs that is similar to retinol vitamin A. It's some minor harm to your organs, but it helps against bacteria on your skin. At least it doesn't have the other long term drawbacks to your skin that antibiotics and many scrubs do.

If you would like to learn how to treat your acne permanently and regain your health and wellbeing, without drugs, without typical acne treatments, and without any side effects, then this will be the most important letter you will ever read.

Nothing is a guarantee, but the best line of acne treatment that Ive found is Clinique. The treatments are matched to you skin type so that, if you already have dry skin, it dosent dry you out more. They make it for normal, oily, and dry skin, and each line is customized for you! The package includes a soap, toner, and moisturizer that will usually clear you skin up in a week or two. They are a little pricey, but not bad, usually 30 and up, depending on what you want. As for the scars, try a lightener made just for the scars. This can be found in the pharmaceutical isle at your drug store and is usually only a few dollars. Good Luck :)

The same thing happens to me! I know what you mean. I just got Pro Activ last week and the results are so great already, it takes the redness out and totally evens out your skintone. But just know for the first 2 days it does make you breakout and then it clears it up, so just plan on starting it on a weekend when your staying home. Hope that helped and good luck!!

Your skin type is mine exactly. Try using Clean+Clear Foaming Facial Cleanser with Clean and Clear Advantage. Wash 2 (maybe three if that's what your face needs). a day.

I think you really should see a dermatologist and order Proactiv. It's $19.95 plus shipping and handling for a month supply. If you don't like it you can always return it and get a refund.
