You need to contact Vodafone and tell them you would like to unlock it, whereupon they will ask you for your IMEI number. There are 3 ways of getting this number.
1. It is written on the box the phone was supplied in.
2. It is written on the inside of your phone, usually near where your sim (Subscriber Identity Module) card fits.
3. (The easiest way of getting it). You type *#06# into your phone.

This code works in the UK across all networks and is not unique to Vodafone. This will bring up the number on the screen. Sometimes it displays it as an IMEI, sometimes as a Serial Number, but it is the same thing. Have this number handy ready for when you call Vodafone, as they will need it. There is usually a charge of around £15 for unlocking the phone.

However there are a couple of points worth noting about phone unlocking. If your phone was bought as a pay as you go phone, the network will not allow it to be unlocked unless you have, in their opinion, spent enough money on calls, etc, to cover the cost of the phone. You will have to discuss that with them.

If your phone is on contract, then different rules apply. Your phone must be out of contract to be able to unlock it. For example, if you acquired the phone on a 18 month contact, then it must have completed the contract (i.e be at least 18 months old) before the network will allow it to be unlocked.

A word of warning, however. There are shops on the high street that will unlock phones for a fee. This is fine if your phone fulfils either of the above criteria (PAYG spend or contract expiry). However if you try to unlock it outside of those criteria, then the network may relock it again, by tracing the IMEI number. Then you will be locked back to Vodafone and you will have wasted your unlocking fee.

I hope this helps and happy calling/texting!

I tried unsuccessfully to unblock a vodafone mobile.
They sent me several number. I would NOT recommend the Internet, because if it doesn't work you lose your money.
Better to take it somewhere and come to an agreement if they cant unblock you dont pay. shop around though as prices vary considerably. you should not need to pay more than 5 pounds.
Try vodafone first because then it wont cost you anything.
