Legal or Illegal. Depending on the circumstances.

The currently legal standard in the US was established by the Supreme Court in Planned Parenthood v. Casey (1992), which partially overturned Roe v. Wade.

It says that the states may regulate and limit abortions, provided that they do not impose an "undue burden" on the right to choose prior to the point of independent viability, and must allow for exceptions in where the life or health of the mother is affected.

So, in practical terms, here are the lines. After a fetus can survive on its own (post-viability), an abortion can be illegal, except that where carrying to term would cause death or permanent bodily injury.

Pre-viability, abortion must be legal, but can include reasonable restrictions. Counseling, waiting periods (days, not weeks), notification of parents for minors (with judicial bypass option), etc.

South Dakota is currently violating this Supreme Court ruling, by declaring all abortions illegal, including those resulting from rape or incest. They are breaking the law deliberately, for the sole purpose of hoping to eventually challenge the Supreme Court ruling.

{EDIT} I don't know the legal status in other countries.

Yes, abortion is legal. Some states have put certain restrictions of the age of the pregnant woman, the term the pregnancy is at, etc. but in all 50 states one can get an abortion.

U want 2 know is it illegal?
It depends where U live in the world.
In the UK it's legal up until 23 weeks.
In Ireland it's illegal, the Pope sees it as a Sin.
Many young Irish girls come here 4 abortions they can't get at home.

I don't have an opinion either way.
It's up 2 the Mother.
Religious freaks should keep their fire & brimstone 2 themselves!

There is nothing basically illegal about the medical terminating a prgnancy. Some States, for teir own person religous reasons, have passed lawys trying to make it illegal. The Courts have inter[rested the constitution as making those laws invalid if they are too restricive.

its legal. landmark decision by the supreme court in 1973 giving parental option to all American females. citing many reason, but the ones that stood out were: physiological harm, financial problems and of course physical. but what was interesting , chief burgress didn't mention males. you see, This is guaranteed already with the 14th amendment to the constitution. that is equal protection under the law. this is gender, racial, etc neutral. therefore, when states garnish an American males .money, property , etc., they are committing felony extortion. you see the equation of roevwade + 14amendment=male parental choice. but if this was actually followed, would American females be able to, or would they even try to back door an American male into fatherhood. remember, we have choices as well. and if someone states it takes two: sex is mainly for recreational because if it wasn't America would have the same pop. as India or China

Abortion is legal. In some states though you have to get a parent or guardians permission if you are a minor. Everyone has a right to their opinion, but it is a woman's right. I have a wonderful daughter who I love, but I believe in a woman's right to choose.

If you would like more info on your rights in your state, you can contact a local health clinic or a "Planned Parenthood."
