The research ranch owned by Monsanto that's northish of St. Peters Missouri. Of course, that was years ago, so I don't quite know if that place is still open.

But yeah, May and June in the woods in that area should give you one hell of a show. They filled the trees. In fact, when I was a kid I'd sometimes walk through the woods at night just so I could see the lightning bugs shoot up into the air from the tall grass. Absolutely beautiful!

I would also suggest Dupont State Forest in Western North Carolina, we have what are known as Blue Ghost Fireflies that appear yearly in late May and early June

I live in Kentucky and we have a ton of them.....when ever I was little, at night in the summer months that was my favorite thing to do! To go outside and catch fireflies....

Most rural grassy and wooded areas should have lightening bugs, but remember that they are seasonal --- well at least here in the Northeast they are.

I am 29 and when I was young lighning bugs were all over. Now you can mostly find them in rural areas near open spaces that are sided with wooded areas.

we don't have them in California, where I grew up, and I was thrilled to see them when camping in Indiana. Don't know if they've got the best, but it's better than the west!

Try any rural river valley. Ohio, Misssissippi both are good.
