Since you are a Yahoo user, why not try:

http://realestate.yahoo.com/

Another popular site is:

http://www.apartments.com/

You can also try Craigslist at:

http://www.craigslist.org/about/cities.html

Another option is to try this site run by e-bay:

http://www.rent.com/

Look at the offerings in the areas you are interested in and you will get an idea as to what is available in your price range.

Good luck with your search.

I am a broker in the DFW area and the areas I like are Little Elm, Denton, Corinth, Prosper, Flower Mound, Highland Village, Argyle, Hickory Creek, Murphy, Frisco, Plano and Highland Village. Fox and Jacobs builds entry level housing starting in the 120's in Denton. Good sites to go to are homebuilder.com. I like Gallery Custom Homes, Drees Custom Homes if you want a litlle more upscale starting in the low 200's.
