I think it depends on where you work - then again I hear that it happens everywhere.
I worked in construction last year and it was great that if you had a problem with someone you said it to their face and not behind their back - less problems better working relationships.
This is not seen as a 'PC' way but out of all the jobs I have had it worked the best.

They do where I work too.. and especially at the volunteer placement I've just got back from. It's human nature. And in many cases, coworkers etc are the one thing everyone has in common and therefore make good topics of conversations. Having been on both the receiving and dishing out end, I don't see anything wrong with it.

Yes - it is human nature. I learned my lesson the hard way once and will only say something about somebody that i would say to their face now. People talk about everyone behind their backs - working in the hospital is theWORST too. I hate it sometimes!

Yes they do, very much so. Especially the blokes, girls tend to be ok but men talk more about others than anyone else.
I tried to keep out of it, but it is very prominent and difficult to keep away from, however it is only idle gossip and doesn't really harm anyone

I don't think that everyone does it but it does occur frequently. What bothered me was the brown nosing and the back stabbing to get ahead.
