One place might be to your local PetSmart or Petco stores.. another good place would be a Veterilnarian's office as they have contacts with people who have pets for give away or sale.

In the USA it is ILLEGAL to sell any turtle under 4" in size. many stores do anyways but they are subject to fines & prosecution if they are caught.
You can legally buy a 4"+ turtle at many pet stores. Some Retile animal rescues will let you adopt them if you have the proper setup.

You can go to petstore, but a lot of people recommend reptile shows and breeders. Here is an excellent website to get advice on this topic as well as what you need to raise a turtle. Good luck!

Come to Illinois in early spring. They just walk across the street over here. I'm always picking them up and carrying them to the other side. (snappers excluded)

idk. try looking in shelters. but if you r gonna get a turtle, kno that they live a long time. you have to be commited to keeping it.
