It has to do with the Americans' perception that France is ungrateful. During WWII many, many American lives were lost trying to free France.
Then DeGaulle, turns his back on America, and sets up his own camp. They started the Vietnam War, then America comes to the S. Vietnamese' aid, and because the French were soundly defeated militarily, they resented the Americans involvement. They criticized our bombing and engaging the Vietnamese in the north. Lying and saying we were purposely targeting schools, hospitals etc. By the end of Linebacker II Hanoi was completely defenseless. But the French cried to the UN, and the UN put pressure on the US to stop the air assault.
Then the third chapter in the anti-American French involvement includes the latest Gulf War. The French Ambassador basically said the "main reason", France opposes the war was simply because they wanted to oppose US involvement and didn't want the US to be the lone superpower in the world. Had they chose to put pressure on Iraq like the rest, then there is a good possibility the war would have never occurred. I know this for a fact by the way.
So I guess the fact that US lost many of it's soldiers defending the French and then for them to turn their back on us, well, you can imagine the ill fillings....

Because some foolish people follow media stereotypes and don't think on their own. I am so interested in France and the French! They were such a strong power in world war 1 and 2, their culture is so fascinating, for example where it seems it is customary for husbands and wives to have 'girlfriends and boyfriends' on the side... please forgive me if that is incorrect. I haven't been to France yet but I plan to go in the next few years. I think French women are some of the sexiest in the world. I love the sound of the French accent. If things get bad in America, and I for some reason cannot move to the UK, I will try to pick up French and move to Paris!

Americans don't like the French for the same reason they don't like the Mexicans... Americans can only talk AmeriKan and they don't like anyone who can use another language than AmeriKan because it reminds them how inferior they are be only being able to use one language... AmeriKan... and they are so arrogant they think the whole world should be able to speak AmeriKan.

I lived in Paris for 2 years and I found the French to be a warm, intelligent and fun loving people and I never had any of the problems most Americans have when they go to France because I can speak French.

Because of ever since Napoleon Bonaparte, most nations around Europe, Africa, and Russia hated the "French men."

Once again during the history of American civilization, several wars are fought between the American and France.

It's not just the Americans. I personally would love to go to France and don't think anything badly of the French people, but no offense, France is the world's punchline.

It is called ethnocentrism, and is a part of the tribal reflex, and is present to some degree in all humans. Only by intellectualizing can it be conquered/overcome.
